Canadian & World Studies Department
The month of October has been
extremely busy in our classes -from writing unit tests to handing in
mid term reports and essays. In a few of our classes , however, we
put time aside to allow for Guest speakers to engage our students in
a variety of career opportunities . This month it was especially
informative for all Law classes in the grade 11 and 12 programs .
They were given the opportunity to learn first hand Investigation
techniques in the field of A Crime Scene investigation.@ . The
presenters were Police detectives from the crime unit who gave a
splendid field experience on Crime field examination . Furthermore ,
students were given the opportunity to examine different fields of
policing by participating in the oral discussion with the two
officers.
The Grade 11 World History class had
an opportunity to visit the Royal Ontario Museum on October 31.
Students were able to see first hand the legacy that ancient
civilizations have given to the modern world. As well, students
were exposed to possible career opportunities available in
Museums.
Jack Williams, a World War II veteran
spoke to some of the Grade 10 History students on November 7. Mr.
Williams served in the Air Force. Students were able to hear about
his experiences and learn about the real tragedy of war. As well,
some Grade 10 students were part of the preparations and events in
the Remembrance Day Service on November 9.
The Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance
Contest gives students an opportunity to reflect upon the sacrifices
of those people who fought and served for Canada. There are twelve
students who are participating in the contest with various entries in
the poster, essay, literature and poetry sections. Good Luck to
these students! Mr. A. Profetto , Ms. M.
