Our students at Cardinal Newman are at the
forefront of computer networking and Information Technology education
in the world. As part of the Global Cisco Academy , Cardinal Newman
is offering courses that will enhance our students opportunities as
the next wave of technology approaches.
A revised COMPUTER ENGINEERING course
(TEE201) is being offered at Cardinal Newman (Cisco Networking
Academy). This offers students more complete training on how to
design, build and maintain computers and Internet networks. IMAC and
an introduction to MS VISTA have recently been added.
These courses, which feature a high level
of hands-on, practical experience to give students real skills in
computer networking, include the following:
TEE2O1 (Grade 10) I.T. Information
Technology provides PC hardware and software skills linked to
network operating systems.
ICE3M1 (Grade 11) CCNA Part 1, Introduction
to Networks
ICE4M1 (Grade 12) CCNA Part 2,
Networking
All courses in the Cisco Networking Academy
Program have been developed by education and networking specialists,
and prepare students for world-wide industry recognised
certifications such as the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA),
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), SUNs professional
certifications and those offered by CompTIA (Computing Technology
Industry Association) such as the Network+ certification. These
courses may be used at the post-secondary level, as part of the
students program. Cardinal Newman ( with Cisco) has developed an
e-learning infrastructure to deliver interactive media to our
students. More than a virtual or on-line course, the Cardinal
Newman Academy has equipment for hands-on practice and certified
instructors who provide guidance and support.
Congratulations to the January 2008
ICE3M1 class , we had EIGHT students earn a Letter of Commendation
for achieving over 80% in the On-line final examination. They were
Steven Bennet, Nick Bilic, Thomas Fischer, Christian Gauger-Cosgrove,
David Porebski, Andrew Rossignol, Eric Summers and Carson
Tarbutt.
Job opportunities for I.T. & Networking
qualified graduates is growing rapidly.
The economic impact of an IT labour
shortage has been outlined in a new Conference Board of Canada study
commissioned by Bell Canada. The report, entitled "Securing our
Future," includes startling revelations about the economic cost of
not filling the estimated 90,000 IT positions set to open across

In December 2007 a release from Bell
Canada signaled a NEW Coalition joining together IT companies citing
the critical shortages of IT professionals in Canada and that Cisco
Systems Canada has joined tis group.
